VNA Community Healthcare Celebrates National Caregiver Month
December 3, 2009
Volunteers from the Caregiver Support Network at VNA Community Healthcare, delivered 135 roses to family caregivers in honor of National Family Caregiver Month (November). Pictured here, Jo Ann Begley of VNA Community Healthcare hands Maureen Lopes of Madison a rose. Lopes and her husband Dwight care for his mother and are part of the non-profit home care agency’s Caregiver Support Network, a free program for family caregivers in the community.
VNA Community Healthcare’s Caregiver Support Network is comprised of VNA employees and volunteers, all of whom are former family caregivers. They offer free individual caregiver consulations and throughout the year they coordinate several free events to help family caregivers handle and cope with the responsibility of caring for an aging loved one. Programs consist of monthly walking support groups and meetings, and social activities.
The Network has recently expanded to the North Haven/Hamden area and continues to support families on the shoreline (East Haven to Old Saybrook). To get involved or to make a donation, contact Jo Ann Begley at 203.458.5950 or email JBegley@vna-commh.org.
What Caregivers had to say:
I can't remember the last time I was remembered in such a special way, it touched my heart and the happiness lasted weeks... I just can't believe someone took the time to come to my door with something for me!
What a lovely surprise! It really brightened my day... thank you all very much, it was really thoughtful.
Thank you for the beautiful rose. We appreciate all your help - you have a wonderful organization.
The timing of that rose was perfect. I was having such a bad day and it really helped turn things around.
Thank you so much for the rose- it really made my day.
