Healthy Snack Ideas

Snacks are taken from grains, fruits, vegetables, dairy and protein rich foods:
SMALL SNACK – 1 hour or less until dinner
8 oz. cup low fat or fat free yogurt
Fresh or canned fruit (1/2 to 1 cup)
Cut vegetables with dip
Whole grain crackers with milk or 100% real fruit juice
½ cup of pudding made with low fat or skim milk (these are available in canned form)
Cereal-low sugar, whole grain and milk*
MEDIUM SNACK - 1 hour or more until next meal
½ chicken sandwich
½ egg salad sandwich
½ tuna sandwich
½ cheese sandwich (any but cream cheese)
½ peanut better sandwich
1 snack bar that provides at least 10% of a vitamin, mineral or fiber
Cottage cheese and fruit
Sandwiches should be made with whole grain breads
*Add fruit juice (not fruit drink) or milk to the above. Milk should be skim or 1% regular milk or skim or 1% Lactose Free milk. Fortified Soy milk also an option
